5x7" Three Common Maples Print

$15.00

5x7” print of my piece, Three Common Maples. This piece was inspired by all of the maple leaves I gathered and pressed this fall. I’ve studied tree ID so many times, but my memory for facts is absolutely terrible, so only a few are really cemented in my mind. Those few have a couple things in common– one, I’ve drawn them, and two, there are very simple tells that allow a positive ID. I have gotten out my trusty tree guide what feels like a million times this year while looking specifically at maple trees, and these three leaves represent the three maples I’ve seen the most on my adventures. I’ve begun to be able to recognize the difference in their leaves, and use that as a way to ID them. It’s not a fool-proof approach (there are several other northeastern maples with similar leaves, and even among one species there’s a great deal of variation) but it’s what works for me, and gives me a starting point at the very least. The native range of all three of these trees is limited to the northeast/midwest.
